Laura -

I have some S. discolor in my garden, and may have a small propagation of
it (if I haven't killed it yet!). It is such a striking plant, but also
very gawky and ridiculous in its habit. We'll get you some somehow, when
we come down next month.

Our specimen of this plant is become very large, and is currently throwing
up its huge, asparagus-like bloom stalk. This plant is right on a stairway
to our front door, and noticeable 'in the way'! I've been trying to figure
out if I should move it (really hard, its now so big!) or just hack it out
(hard enough!). Seeing it flowering, I decided I could merely cut it out
as it will die out soon anyway. When I announced my plans to my
non-horticultural wife and kids (who had long complained about this spiny
monster!), they surprisingly came to its defense! "You've got to let it
live out its life!!!" So, it will apparently stay a little longer, and
we'll get to watch the pale-green, white, and rose colored bloom spike run
its course!!

!!! Really?! I hope this is in flower when we come - I've never heard of
this form! I love S. canariensis! Sound like something I'll need to
have. I'll have to bring a few more goodies to entice a trade with!

Sean O.
