Dear Marjolein,
We just had a number of postings about this in the IBS bulb forum. This
classification can be quite misleading as it does not take into account
rainfall periods etc. Some literature put a major part of Europe
(including Holland) in zone 8 which I considere to be quite wrong.
Considering the amount of frosts during the continentals influxes
Holland experiences occasionally it should be classified zone 6 or 7.
Here in the south of France and Siena (in the olive zone) we are
considered to be 8. The Côte d'azur and the coastal areas of Spain and
Italy in zone 9
I hope that clarifies the situation.
