pipevine swallowtail

Someone on this list asked about pipevine swallowtails recently--sorry I
don't remember who it was--& I came across some pertinent information today.
In The Butterfly Book by Stokes & Williams, the entry under swallowtails
includes the following:
"Several other species of butterflies have evolved to look like the pipevine
swallowtail and thus fool some birds into thinking that they are also
distasteful. Mimics include the black swallowtail, spicebush swallowtail,
and some female tiger swallowtails, as well as the red-spotted purple, which
is one of the admirals."
So it sounds as though one would have to be pretty good at butterfly ID to
put a name on your butterfly photo. It did look like a pipevine swallowtail
to me, but I have only a casual acquaintance with butterflies.
