Dear Charles
I couldn't agree more with you; a Med garden in a Med region should be establsihed and then let alone. To do otherwise would be self defeating. It is what I try to do myself in my own garden.
A BG has 2 basic roles: to be an active educational and research institution, and to be a passive recreational and entertaining institution. Clearly there are two kinds of target groups here - people who want to learn and who want to teach, and people who want to enjoy and observe a pleasant environment. All too often the balance between the two is tipped in favour of public recreation and idle amusement. This is why too many BG's persist in having big water consuming annual displays, acres of water hungry lawns etc
You are right. Stick to your guns.
