Brachypodium ramosum is one of the native Mediterranean grasses, it probably grows not far from where you are : have a walk in the garrigue and you'll find it, in rocky poor dry alcaline wind beaten conditions !
 
To be sure to recognize it you can have a look at :
 
 
Brachypodium is naturally about 10 to 20 cm high, the flowers can be 40 cm high. In the garden if you mow it once every two or three months you can keep it 5 to 10 cm high. It spreads slowly by rhizomes, you have to plant 8 plants per square meter to cover the ground in about one year. You can also try to sow it as for a traditional lawn, either by collecting the seeds yourself or trying to find them in the trade.
