Some of the Pseudopanax species grown at Strybing
Arboretum include P. arboreum, P. crassifolium and P.
laetus, and some of the species available in the local
trade include P. ferox and P. x lessonii
'Linearifolius', a possible hybrid with P.
crassifolius.
Several local gardeners here in Berkeley have 15 to 20
foot tall specimens of P. ferox, none of which have
reverted to adult foliage or started to branch yet.
All of these species survived our 1990 freeze with
cold down to 24~25F, but I don't recall the extent of
freeze damage, and it is not apparent 11 years later.
Possibly Jason Dewees could comment on the extent of
freeze damage/expected cold hardiness from those
planted at Strybing Arboretum?
