Hello all --
I grow a lot of tulips, from giant hybrid types to little tiny rock garden ones. This year one of the Darwin hybrids produced seeds. First time I've had that happen with a non-species tulip! I'd like to germinate them, in hopes of getting something interesting. Can anyone tell me about tulips' germination requirements? I assume they need some period of cold stratification -- anyone know for how long? [Please don't suggest that I just put them outside, in a pot or in the ground, and let nature take its course. My huge population of non-native snails and slugs love tulips. A large bulb can grow leaves faster than they are eaten, but seedlings wouldn't stand a chance!]
Thanks -- this is a wonderful group!
