Greetings from the Algarve,Portugal,
Cloudy 24'C,
I don't think your plant is Asteriscus maritimus,
but perhaps the related annual Asteriscus aquaticus.
I dont think A maritimus occurs in Cyprus, it is
much more a western med species - although it does grow in Greece. It is a
spectacular member of the sea-cliff flora here in the Algarve flowering for
several months. The flowers are much larger than you describe - definitely more
than 3cm across. Another difference is that the bracts are quite short - in your
picture the bracts look quite long - a feature of A aquaticus.
A aquaticus occurs throughout the Med often in damp
places (I suppose hence the "aquaticus"), but also in dry disturbed and waste
land. It is an annual (A maritimus is perennial) that can appear and grow
rapidly in waste ground.
There is a good website with detailed pictures that
may help:
A maritimus
A aquaticus
Anyway whatever the name, two very attractive
plants.
