tall, narrow spot

Any suggestions for a plant that will go into a container and get 5 to 6' tall but no more than 3' wide? Client didn't like the bamboo I originally planted. I'm racking my brain for something "exotic" that will fit that bill other than papyrus. The space is filled with Carex tumicola which is very fine textured and I'm thinking that papyrus will just blend in rather than create a nice textural contrast. 

Any ideas?
