RE: Rosmarinus 'Boule'...is it really boule-shaped?

Merci, Jean...I’m embarrassed to admit I have Olivier’s book right here and didn’t think to look before I posted.

Eh bien...back to the drawing board for an alternative. It sounded so perfect, too. *sigh*

Hello Cheryl,

In his new book, The Dry Gardening Handbook, Olivier Filippi provides the answer to your query:

"In its first year, it forms a spreading ball, like a plump regular cushion. The branches then root as they touch the soil and the plant spreads rapidly, making a thick groundcover."

In my garden, I planted several on top of a wall, and they form a green and blue cascade. Rosmarinus officinalis ver. repens does the same trick.

All best,

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a planting plan, and am eyeing Rosmarinus officinalis 'Boule'

as a possible low hedge. However, when I search for images of the plant

online, I keep finding photos of a rosemary captioned as 'Boule' that

exhibits a strong prostrate habit. Like this:

So I was wondering...is anyone growing this variety? Have you found it to be

more upright or more prostrate? Does it live up to its name?

Thank you!
