Re: Mystery plant identification?

How about Elaeagnus umbellata?

The leaves on E. angustifolia are quite variable and since I saw only buds, I wasn't going to assume a flower color.

Eleagnus angustifolia is different to this one, having dark, smooth trunk, more elongated, silvery leaves and small yellow flowers!

Looks like a form of Elaeagnus angustifolia, RUSSIAN OLIVE, SILVER BERRY, OLEASTER.

Quite common in the great north, especially in dry locations such as on sand.

Hello everyone,

Seems I've got nothing but mystery plant questions these days, but this is for a friend in Michgan. *Now*, I realize Michigan is about as far from Mediterranean gardening as possible, but you all are very very knowledgable so I thought of you. The plant in question is a tree friend sees around where he lives. I had him take some close up shots of the leaves and flower (buds), as well as a full shot of the trees, so perhaps this will be helpful in identifying them?

Full shot of the trees in question: http://i46.tinypic.com/2ppj606.jpg

Close up of leaves and flower buds. Friend's hand is holding onto one of the branches in shot: http://i45.tinypic.com/24l2ypj.jpg

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Barry
