I know what you mean, Nan. And I'm always improvising envelopes from whatever I can find at the moment of collection (usually very spontaneous)! Simple photo boxes are cheap and usually available, especially at outlet stores like Marshalls. They are somewhat compact, lightweight, and easy to take down from a high shelf. Some even come with card dividers that can be used to sort packages into groups. I've used coin envelopes in the past as well - sometimes they 'leak' fine seed because their glued surfaces are minimal. Used to be there were more Stationer shops around and you could find all manner of interesting envelopes. When I found some that I like, I would usually buy a box of them to use for a while. Trying to make sure I had them on hand at the right moment was the challenge, but then one could transfer them into their official envelope later (yeah, right!). This task energizes organized people (like Martha Stewart), but perhaps not you and I!! ;-)

I've heard about libraries repurposing old card catalogs as seed banks (check out some seeds, grow the plant, save seeds from the fruit and return them to the library). That's probably more than you need, but anything from a recipe box to a plastic shoebox would work, I think.Cheryl-----Cheryl RenshawLandscape Designerc*@wr-architect.com

How do you keep track of ornamental seeds? ÂI seem to collect seed packets wherever I go, with every intent of planting the seeds but by time I get home, the packets get scattered everywhere and I forget what I Âneed to plant when.ÂVeggies are easy to track but not so much the ornamentals. ÂAnyone have a good system?*****************************************Nan Sterman,ÂPlant Soup, IncÂTMGarden Journalist âÂSpeakerGardening Coach â Garden DesignerÂâÂHorticulture Consultant Â
