People are just starting to grow olives in northern New South Wales,
Australia. Apparently there are quite a few being planted around Inverell
which is on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range. They are also
being planted around Armidale where I live, but people are having trouble
with the young trees having their trunks split in the extreme cold.
However, people are experimenting with different methods and species.
I have never seen olives growing in Australia to the extent that they grow
in European countries, but it is possible the industry will grow. Other
Aussies may know of more extensive olive growing in other parts of this
country.
