Re: Olives in Australia

Hi all,

My inaugral post. I know Brisbane is hardly a mediterranean climate, but
I really love mediterranean plants and I grow what I can.

Apparently they are a real problem in the Adelaide hills. Because the
climate is just perfect, they've become a weed (possibly declared
noxious?).

I have just this week seen Australian olive oil on the supermarket shelf
for the first time. It was extra virgin (cold pressed?) and more
expensive than comparable European products. Apparently Australian
producers are having trouble breaking into the market with all the
competetion from the importers. I guess economies of scale factor in a
big way as well.
