I live in sydney and there are olive trees in our next door and back
neighbours yards.
Twice a year (or how ever often they fruit) all the fruit disappears in
one day so i assum
someone is eating them. Actually there are quite a few olives growing in
yards around
our place. I've seen african olives growing in the Mt Anan gardens as a
weed. I've never
seen commercial plantings but I have had Sth. Aust. olive oil and olives
and I have a
friend who is planning an orchard in central Vic. Whenever I go to the
Deli. I ask for
Australian olives just to give the owner a little jolt of patriotism but
it seems to have
no effect - the answer is always 'No!'. Never mind! I'm going to have an
olive tree (and a quandong, and
a wild lime and a mandarine and and and ....) when we move to Adelaide,
although I've heard that pickling them is tedious. Anyone know how to do
it?
