Re: Arctostaphylos uva-ursi

 It has beome a dense thicket 4 feet tall,

I've never seen Acrostaphylos uva-ursi more than about 9 inches tall, 
and in the wild, usually less.  It's planted on a big traffic island 
near me and is probably 8 inches deep and has been forever.
