To Sean & Richard & the rest o' us Medit-Planters

	Dear Sean & Richard, 6/27/98

I'd love to see the list already compiled as it seems an inordinate
waste of time to have everyone list Ed Carman--it's 2 As! and or
	Western Hills.

As a wholesale buyer there are numbers of nurseries I use which may
not be directly available to the public BUT your retail nursery can
and will special order for you

First I'd recommend a treat: Go to the net at pull up
www.montereybaynsy.com for an example of a really good web site
featuring mediterraneans, especially West Australians with good
photos and decent information. Not many errors that I caught.

                            *NURSERIES*
	1) Ed Carman - Los Gatos, CA
	2) Western Hills-the best nursery in CA and one of the best in the
world. Maggie Wych, owner. Occidental, CA
	3) The Dry Garden. Oakland, CA owner, Richard Ward don't let the
name scare you--much more than succulents and ocatillos.
	4) Emerisa Gardens - Santa Rosa - the best local grower of 4"
herbs, perennials and subshrubs. Always enlarging and experimenting.
`	Owners, The Muchtar Saltzmann Family
	5) Wisteria, Garden Center and Antiques, Aptos, CA - Wow. The best
looking plants at reasonable prices and spectacular selection of
Garden ornament - sculpture, wire-work,armillaries, obelisques, benches
	etc. on Soquel Rd.
	6) Berkeley Horticultural Nursery-an old dog with few new tricks.
If you can get through the "attitude" they have a fine range of
ornamentals at Cadillac prices. Owner, Paul Doty.
	7) Smith & Hawken Nursery - Now that Kristin Jakob has taken over
both the Marin and Berkeley locations have become great places to
	shop. Up scale.
	8) Vintage Roses - Sebastapol, CA Old garden roses ON THEIR OWN
ROOTS. Knowledgeable staff. Nice selection of companion plants.
`	Owner, Greg Lowery
	9) Rosendale's & Sierra Azul, Watsonville, CA A treasury of medits,
Australians and South Africans. Knowledgeable growers. An ever
more beautiful display garden. Good folks.
	Owners, Jeff and Lisa Rosendale
	10) Garland's, Corvalis, OR An enormous retain garden center with
'	an astonishing selection of plants--a good buyer. Many items on
my quest list found fulfilment here, e.g. VIBURNUM propinquum,
`	MANGLIETTIA insignis 'Rosea', etc. Phenomenal selection of 2.5"
	ground covers and semps.
	enuf 4 now
