Assuming that you're not just coming all this way just to see rhodos, but
are also interested in some of the locals...
For the heath-type flowers, both in WA and here in the east, November is a
bit late -- the best displays, both in gardens and in the wild, are
August-September. These are of course the kind of "Australian plants" seen
most in Calif gardens. If you're in Sydney, go down to Royal National Park
just south of town for these.
Rainforest plants, on the east coast in Queensland and NSW, mostly flower
Nov and Dec, corresponding to the beginning of the rainy season up north
(obviously not mediterranean!).
In my own area (Wollongong), the jackarandas and Illawarra flame trees in a
good year are spectacular around Nov. Go up to a high viewpoint (e.g., Mt
Kiera) and look out over the city.
