re: Olivier Filippi where are you ?

Dear Olivier and all,

I remember meeting you, and seeing your magnificent collection of
Nerium when I spoke at Courson in '97. Nan's seed of Convolvulous
reminded me that I should ask you and medit-planters if anyone grows
or has seeds of Convolvulous canariense? This is a shrub, about 3m
tall with slender upright over-arching branches, somewhat silver-ish
narrow, plain leaves and large clusters of small white Convolvulous
type flowers. There is an old plant in Adelaide Botanic Garden that I
admire every time I see it. I can't imagine why no local nurseryman
has propagated it (could it be that there are none; all having turned
themselves into purveyors of plants grown elsewhere and imported
regardless of suitability to our climate and soils?) but I'd like to
try a few seeds if anyone can supply them.

I am trying to grow Mandrake - Mandragora autumnalis. I got the
seedlings up and through the first winter. I kept them OK over summer
in a shady spot out of the baking sun - tho' they would have dried
out from time to time. No sign of them yet. Are they late emerging?
Or have I lost them? I haven't scratched about under the pot's
covering of gravel chips yet. Any cultivation/ planting tips anyone?

regards

trevor n
