gladiolus in pots?

Have any of you had success with Gladiolus callianthemus (old Acidanthera)
in pots?  My reference books are of mixed opinion or silent on the subject
and I have not seen them grown in containers.  I would like to try it unless
there's some reason it's a dumb idea.
