Thanx so much, all, for your suggestions in dealing with scale on
abutilon. I was surprised to hear that it is apparently an ongoing
problem with this species. I used an old toothbrush to scrape the
buggers off and cut back the more heavily-infested branches. I'll pick
up some ant control today.
On to another question, re: phalaris arundinacea, Feeley's Form, a type
of ribbon grass/reed canary grass. I broke up a 1-gal. pot of this
grass into little plugs and added them to a border of heliotrope,
alyssum and violas. It is a pale green and white striped grass with a
hint of pinky-lavender color. It looks so pretty and charming! Then I
looked it up and it sounds incredibly invasive. Anyone had any
experience with it? Should I pull it out immediately or is it not as bad
as it sounds (one source said it needs an underground collar containment
like bamboo to control runners/rhizomes). TIA!
