Are they potted or in the ground. Will make a big difference. Here in
Upper Kula, Maui wisteria can get to be weeds. They seem to bloom every
year and they are just finishing up to my dismay (I found they are
excellent hosts for bean butterfly larvae and I have been collecting them
for a friend). Heck they seem to sprout roots everywhere the vines touch
the ground. Zone wise we are considered everything from 9-11 (USDA zones)
and there are very few times a year that things get below the low 40's. I
saw a lot of them in northen Japan (Aomori Ken, Misawa/Towada). Maybe
chilling hours needed for blooming differ between cultivares. I have only
seen the blue ones here on Maui and not the pink, white, etc. Perhaps it
is related to the insufficient cold.....
