Folk wisdom (Grandma) is sometimes the most effective in getting desired results from our gardens. One question: WHEN is the best time to beat the trunk and gouge roots? As the plant goes into winter dormancy? When it first leafs out? Paul Harrar Nevada City, California Sunset Zone 7 2,700 ft.
