I do believe age is a factor in a wisteria blooming but since these were
already forced into bloom when they purchased them it could mean that the
plants need to recover from the "forcing"....I know that azalea's forced into
bloom my not bloom the following year.
You may laugh at this method but I do know that it worked. My mom-n-law had
a Wisteria growing up her oak tree for 7 years without a bloom. A friend of
hers told her to hit the trunk of a Wisteria with a baseball bat to cause
stress (moderately, not enough to cause real damage) ....she did and has
blooms on her Wisteria ever since.
I've also heard, but cannot be for certain, that if you take a shovel and cut
through the roots about a foot away from the Wisteria that this too will
cause stress and encourage the Wisteria into bloom.
These methods are from "grandma" gardeners and I, for one, always take the
word of a "grandma" gardener.
