Well, where I live in California (near Monterey), it has been likened more
to a cool cloudforest climate than a truly med. climate. The website
www.cloudforest.com focuses on this area, and they talk about various
plants that do well in the cloudforest, but also would probably do well
around Monterey. Some of the examples of what they speak about is they
mention several palms that would do well here: Caryota, Parajubaea,
Ceroxylon, Archontophoenix . They even have these java applets that
compare the temps between quito, ecuador, and Monterey. Interestingly the
temps are generally similar.
So, I too am a little more interested in exploring the possibilities
there. This list fascinates me because i can grow most of the typical med
plants, but my climate isnt truly med (and my interests arent strictly
that either). So, most of the time i cant really speak about a lot of the
topics brought up here, because i'm not currently growing the plant, or i
feel my question would be way too off topic.
