Irini mentioned this for a hedge - they use atriplex quite a lot in this
area, but for middle sized hedges, let's say 1 m. high. The silvery shine of
the grey leaves is very beautiful.

My experience with myrsine africana is that indeed it can be kept low
but in Athens climate ,dry and hot, it does better in shade. It has a
tendency to have parts dying back and I saw it getting bronzy in full
sun-but it could be because of chalky and not very fertile soil.
About keeping low hedges,I've seen teucrium fruticans that can grow very
large kept 30-40 cm high.I find it a very healthy,reliable hedge,high or
low, in the grey colours.
I've also seen in southern Spain, very nice low borders of atriplex
halimus-grey,drought,salt tolerant.
