Job No. 1090 Nursery Technician I
Duties: Manages and maintains nursery propagation and production of plants to be planted on the Arboretum grounds. Maintains complete and accurate records of plants on the grounds and in the nursery. Controls weeds and pests in Arboretum nursery as needed. Contributes to determining planting locations of plants in the grounds. Provides any care needed for plantings on the grounds.
Requirements: Equivalent to one of year of experience in a research-oriented greenhouse operation or in a diversified commercial nursery or landscaping enterprise. Equivalent to 60 semester or 90 quarter units of academic work in a four-year college or university, with emphasis in botany, plant science, landscape design, Taxonomy, and/or Horticulture, or similar coursework. Working knowledge of plant nomenclature, its rules and intricacies is needed to confirm identities of plants.
Preferred Experience: A bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.
