Hi Nan,

You have my sympathy.I would guess,not having seen your beast,
that it is Oxalis corniculata and it's variety, purpurea.
There is no herbicide which will kill it only without harming other
broad leaf plants. If it has invaded
a planting, only persistent hand weeding will get it out,and then only if you
get every scrap as it roots at the nodes,and it will probably have left many
seeds behind. An alternative is to dig up all your desirable plants,wash and
bare root them, plant them in a weed free nursery bed while you treat the
infestation. Or give up and learn to tolerate this thug.It is a weed which often
is introduced
into a garden via infested nursery stock.
