Thanks to those who responded. I forgot to mention the flowers. We bought
the house in Nov so I never even saw it before Oct. By that time there
were no flowers, just berries. So I don't know what the flowers look
like.
It does look a little off for Ligustrum vulgare, but here are some pics
of that species which I found with a web search. The European wild
privet (which I know as a British wild shrub) does have narrower leaves
than the cultivated Asian privets. Certainly the flowers would help with
your plant. It must produce them if it has berries. I can't think what
else if it's not a Ligustrum. There's Lycium (Solanaceae), but I don't
think it has terminal clusters of berries like that.

Yes this one looks like it.

These are consistant with it.
I searched the web for pictures of various Ligustrums and only found ones
that were clearly not what I had. But you seem to have hit it on the
nail. Thank you.
I was fairly sure after what people told me last time that it was a
Ligustrum but I wanted to be absolutely sure before ripping it out. I'll
take it out now. Maybe not all of them but all the ones in this planting
section by the side of the driveway.
For those looking at the other plants on the page, they've been ID'd
already, thanks.
