Narcissus

Tim:

Unfortunately, you missed the closest daffodil show to you, which was held in Livermore, Ca this weekend (3/12 and 3/13). There is another this coming weekend in Murphy's, Ca. in the foothills
(3/19 and 3/20) at the Kautz Ironstone Vineyards and Winery. Another in Fortuna, the weekend after that I think (check the Northern Ca Daffodil Society website to make sure).

If you want to see some of the more incredible stuff available in modern daffodils, these shows by the Northern California Daffodil society are the place to do it.

The only relatively small pink daffodil of which I am aware that might do well in your area that is cheaply and readily available is called "Bell Song". It has a reputation as a pretty good garden flowerand has been a reliable repeater for me for several years. Try to stick with Tazettas or Jonquillas (RHS divisions) and generally look for early varieties that bloom and grow in our wetter cooler weather, although I must admit there are so many microclimate areas in the Bay area that I have trouble keeping them all staight.

My own daffodil experience is pretty much limited to the cental valley and the foothills at 2500',
not too far from Volcano, Ca and the well known Daffodil Hill, which should be about peak this week, based on my own flowers.

Yours most respectfully,
Michael Larmer
