Hi
I have three of these plants that have
flowered and are seeding. I want to propogate from seed but need some
specific advice. I have sourced the following general info from the net
http://www.plantzafrica.com/plantqrs/scadoxuspuniceus.htm.
"The fruits are fleshy, round, shiny red berries up to ±1cm in diameter.
They bear single soft pearl-like seeds inside. Ripe berries eaten by birds /
monkeys.... The Scadoxus puniceus may be propagated from seed which must
be sown fresh.
My questions:
The fruits are mainly green and are falling off
the palnt while still green - the minority have turned red. How do I know when the seeds are ripe?
Do I extract the seed from its
pod or plant intact?
What success rate can I expect (adhering to
correct planting protocol)? IS this a difficult plant to start from seed?
Thanks
Charl
