There have been some similar problems in NZ too. I
/have/ watched one person's ashes being scattered in the (reletively) wild. The
former engineer of the Gliding Club to which I belonged for many years asked to
have his ashes scattered over the club's airstrip and this was done, they were
scattered from a fairly low altitude out of the window of the Club's
towplane.
Here in Wainui, the Local Council has created a
very pleasant "Garden of Remembrance" right at the end of our road - about half
a mile from our house.
This has been designed as a circular rose garden,
with asphalt paths separated by rose beds. People's ashes can be deposited (in
their container) into the rose beds, and a memorial plaque attached to the
concrete curb at the edge of the path. The result is very pleasing, although -
so far - only the first quarter-circle has been completed. Since this part is
alreayd almost full, the Council has recently agreed to complete the next
portion of the full-circle garden.
Moira and I hope to be "planted" in this garden in
due course, and have told our kids so.
