The History of Citrus in California: From Farms to Yards (San Jose, CA)

Saturday April 5th, 1-4pm
Guadalupe River Park & Gardens Visitor Center, 438 Coleman Ave, San Jose.
A meeting of the Northern California Branch of The Mediterranean Garden
Society, an international forum devoted to furthering knowledge and
appreciation of plants and gardens suited to the mediterranean climate regions
of the world.

This event will begin with a brief, docent led tour of the Guadalupe River
Park grounds, followed by light refreshments and a presentation about The Late
Show Gardens (www.thelateshowgardens.org), a brand new event to take place at
Copia in Napa Valley (www.copia.org).

Our main presentation will be a slide show by Aaron Driggs Dillon, a 3rd
generation Californian, fourth generation citrus grower at Four Winds Growers
in Fremont (www.fourwindsgrowers.com).

The History of Citrus in California: From Farms to Yards - covering the
history of Citrus in California from its beginnings with the Spanish up to
today.  It will focus on the development of dwarf citrus and the role that
Four Winds Growers played in developing this type of trees.  The talk will
also cover some of the exciting new varieties that have been developed during
the last few years.

This event is open to the public and we ask a $10 donation to help defray the
costs.  Information about our Branch of The Mediterranean Garden Society will
be available as well as copies of our Resource Guide for Northern California
Gardeners, which includes the best places to purchase plants and garden
accessories, recommended books and articles, places to take classes and
