Don't let it get as bad as most places in Hawaii.  It has take over the forests in the low land coastal areas.   You may want to in large trees do a cut stump treatment or rill and frill (cut bark in ring around the base of tree and treat cut area). UH had recommended triclopyr or dicamba as being effective.  Goats will also eat and girdle and clear.....
