Moving a Cordyline australis

Wow, another question two days in a row! :D

This time it concerns moving a Cordyline australis. This is one of the few plants I would miss when we move, and I'm wondering how easy (or hard if that's the case) it would be to transplant it? The thing is about 8 feet tall to the tops of the leaves, and it consists of two plants that were grown in the same pot. I've read they tend to have taproots so I'm worried that that will be rather extensive. Is it possible to move the plant, or should I just buy a new one and leave the old one in ground?

Thank you!

Barry
