I have an F. boliviana here in Los Gatos (USDA zone 9) which grew like a
weed all summer, fall and most of this winter (got to 3 feet tall X 4-5 feet
wide) with hundreds of flowers, and showed no ill affects during most of our
winter (low temps in high 30's) but was killed to the ground during the 1 day
freeze when temperatures reached a low of 28 here. It is coming back from the
roots now fortunately. It is in a sheltered location between two buildings but
has no overhead protection from frosts. I intend to start another from cuttings
and grow it under the eaves in a pot along with my beers (sp.?) Lime. (which was
unaffected in the same freeze)

Sean - how hardy to you find F.boliviana to be? I was under the impression
it was pretty frost-tender. I have kept mine indoors all winter, and even
then it has looked pretty ill. It must be lovely as a shrub outdoors,
especially when you get hummingbirds pollinating it (sigh!)
