Peter Klement at UC Botanical Garden in Berkeley, takes care of the old
roses section in the Garden. He is looking for old garden pinks, Dianthus
cultivars, which might fit historically with the age of the roses. Is
there anyone who grows these & could share a few cuttings?
Peter feels that the Rose Garden at UCBG should exhibit garden flowers
with wild progenitors, as well as old cultivars. This will take sleuthing.
He says that often, at UC Botanical Garden, wild collected plants have
outperformed the cultivated selections - Salvia nemorosa in the European
collection from Germany, and Campanula persicifolia are examples.
Suggestions?
