Re: Desert Wildflowers in CA

>

I was in the eastern Mojave last weekend. While the bloom is pretty good at
lower elevations, it is still much too early for the Providence Mountains, Mid
Hills and New York Mountains, i.e., elevations above 4000 feet. There was still
a little bit of snow on the north faces of Wild Horse Mesa, Table Top and
Caruthers Canyon. While Erodium is starting to bloom, no cacti were blooming
yet, and many of the herbaceous perennials have yet to emerge.

If I remember correctly there were many purple (blue) lupines in bloom along
I-40 between Barstow and Ludlow. Also as a word to the wise, the Chevron
station at Ludlow is closed for reconstruction and the 76 at Ludlow could not
pump because of no electricity, so I wouldn't recommend limping into Ludlow on
fumes.. I had to go to Baker on I-15 for gas.
