Rand Lee asked for reasons as to why this annual should die at the seedling
stage.
"For the second year I have managed to kill all my flourishing seedlings of
Zaluzianskya
capensis, which is supposed to be a very easy annual from South Africa with
a strong
evening fragrance of almond. Virtually overnight the plants wilted and
died. No bugs I
could see. Was fertilizing and watering regularly. Anybody else have a
problem with
these?"
Rand, how are you growing them? They want cool, sunny conditions with lots
of fresh air. Damping-off is easy if they are too crowded, too warm, too
moist or especially if fresh air is not circulating. I don't know your
conditions and maybe none of these apply.
By the way, why were you fertilizing them? They should not get much as this
makes them too lush, unhealthy and disposed to damping off. In nature they
grow in sand with little in the way of nutrition.
