Hey Richard -
I thought this sounded familiar to me - finally found it in Heronswood's
catalog as LeSpedeza thunbergii, where Dan lists 3 cultivars he brought over
from Japan ('Edo Shidori', 'Gempei', and 'Gibraltar' - perhaps this last
form is from elsewhere?) where it is very popular. He lists this species
as a 'perennial' as he feels it grows better and looks nicer it cut to the
ground each year - apparently is produces more gracefully arching sprays
of foliage and flowers.
Sounds very interesting, Richard - wanna trade a few seeds for . . . ?
Or maybe seedlings (if you find you have surplus)?
Take care,
Sean O.
