Re: Quercus phyllyreoides

Hi Richard -

Guess this was the Cal Hort sale? Hope you folks did well on Sunday.

This from Heronswood's catalogue about this Japanese species:
"Still rare in cultivation, this handsome, small tree or large shrub sports
glossy evergreen leathery foliage which is decidedly oval in shape and
emerges with handsome bronze tints in spring. Exceedingly drought-tolerant
once fully established, this should join ranks with an ever growing
inventory of evergreen trees being used by adventuresome gardeners of the
west coast. Our collections from Shikoku Island in the autumn of 1997."
