Alessandra Vinciguerra's remarks
about roses reminded me that there are a number of species roses native to the
Mediterranean and California coast, so they qualify as subjects for our group.
They happen to be a passion of mine (in addition to grevilleas) and wanted to
ask anyone that grows species roses to get in touch. Fred Boutin and I are
teaching a two-day class at UC Santa Cruz Arboretum next weekend about species,
and I am working on the next edition of Modern Roses in the hopes that
the species section can be reworked and cleaned up.
There is a species Round Robin some
of you might be interested in joining. I belong to two - one in the western US
and an international group that has been together for nearly ten years. Bill
