Rand,
I purchased my Dianthus japonicus from Barry Glick, owner of Sunshine
Farm and Gardens.  Barry lives in Renick, West (by God) Virginia. His
nursery is literally sited on the side of a mountain in Zone 5.
All 5 plants I purchased thrived in my Zone 7b garden in Virginia.  A
friend also reported success with hers in Zone 8, North Carolina.
I now garden in Zone 9b/10a in Flordia.  I am now in the process of
raising D. japonicus seedlings.  Will keep you posted on their progress.
