lithodora and plant sales

Thanks to everyone for the Lithodora advice. Cooler temperatures and acid
soil seems to be the consensus. While we seldom have sweltering
temperatures, we do have heavy clay so Lithodora is a bit iffy for the
parking strip. Convolvulus and Senecio may be more practical
alternatives.

On the thread of plant sales, I've been preparing for the Huntington sale
for well over a month! I have already cleared a large bed and am making
lots of lists (plants wanted, plants that can be sacrificed if I see
something more desirable, garden spots that needs plants etc) which I keep
losing.  So then I start the list process all over again.  I don't mind;
it's a way to daydream my way through the day :)

I happened on the huntington sale by accident. The first year, I
spent all my time in the succulent section and never saw the rest of the
sale before my (non-gardening) companion got fed up and needed to be fed.
Second time, I went with a gardening pal and we impulsed shopped our way
through the entire sale. Half of those plants died because I had no space
in the garden for them. We also were sunburnt and hypoglycemic by the
end of the day. ok, this year, I plan to try a more focussed
approach! Frankly, I am rather glad that there aren't more large plants
sales in southern california. I don't think I can take any more. And now
David has mentioned the UC Irvine sale which I didn't know was another Big
One!

Happy plant hunting
Angela
