A biography of Kate Sessions has a four-page "Partial List of Trees and
Plants Popularized by Kate Sessions in Southern California. Of course, you
have to allow that she died in 1940 and so many plants we see now were not
available to her.

Kate Sessions, an early horticulturist and nurserywoman in San Diego at
the turn of the century, was in correspondence with like minded people
around the world and throughout California about what plants could be
successfully grown in San Diego and the rest of California. Her plant
lists would be interesting reading, and a great help in projects like
this.
