Re: Sub-Tropical Climbers

Curious - was this message a reply to something?  I suspect I don't get all the medit-plants messages - I hadn't seen any messages that were related.

As to Tim Longville's request for optimum growing conditions :
Anyone have (simple, please!) ideas of how I might turn 'ok' into 'excellent': ie, when grown as
     greenhouse plants

They do very well in filtered light San Francisco, which has a very cool climate.  Although there is little growth when the temperatures are below 10 degrees, they seem to thrive between 13-18 degrees.   They seem to develop well with their roots in shade, (new seedlings appear regularly in total shade on the ground) and the upper parts in several hours of sun.  They seem to prefer very well drained soil.  I would suggest placement in the cooler part of your green house.

Though not really a sub-tropical, I'd suggest Bomarea ssp..  I'm not sure how well it would fare in a greenhouse though.
