The key to that is "river adjacent to my property" there are few plants adapted to year-round rainfall that would NOT be able to sustain themselves in a riparian community (assuming they are competitive in that situation).

Not true I'm afraid. Its a noted escapee in the Western Cape. There are
impenetrable thickets of it along the river adjacent to my property.
