Irene - Delayed reply to say I 'have experience of' M. yunnanensis but in Cumbria UK - where it flourishes, a fact which doesn't provide much info re exposure to sun! Slightly more seriously, I doubt if any michelia would relish regular and lengthy exposure to real heat and bright sun.

Hello all, Does anyone on this list have experience with michelia yunnanensis? Specifically, I need to know if it is more sun-tolerant than m. figo? I'm in Napa Valley, Ca, where it can occasionally get hot (perhaps 20 days a year of 90-ish F or over) and m. figo burns here if it gets full sun. Thanks much, -- Irene.
