Dear Joe,
I can't believe there is a list you don't have -
just kidding.
I have used Achillea millefolium 'Cerise Queen',
Artemesia 'Powis Castle', Artemisia stelleriana or Dusty Miller, Buddleia
dward or regular size, Coreopsis grandiflora or Limerock, Cosmos
atrosanguineus, day lilies, Dianthus barbatus or Sweet William, Echinacea,
Erigeron karvinskianus - Santa Barbara Daisy, Gaillardia, Hardy Geraniums,
bearded iris, Lantana, lilies, Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum' and other grasses,
Penstemon - many varieties, Phlox - tall garden varieties and creeping
varieties, Rudbeckia hirta 'Indian Summer', Salvia greggii 'Desert Blaze',
Salvia x sylvestris 'May Knight', and Saponaria.
Also some of the herbs are fast growing such as
Salvia sclarea (I use Clary Sage for its large foliage) and many shrubs
such as Ceratostigma plumbaginoides can be used in a perennial bed while
they are small to fill in and then transplanted out the next year or left
in.
I have also filled in with annuals
till perennials are larger the second year such as sunflowers, cosmos,
marigolds, petunias and zinnias.
Many times I have put in perennial beds in the
early fall with amended soil and the next spring they really take off to fuller
size than when I planted them in the spring. Hope this helps.
