I'm back

Hello Everyone,

This is just to say that I'm now safely installed at MoBot in St. Louis
and have re-subscribed to Medit-Plants. Obviously, there's much to learn
in my new job, but soon I hope to buy a vehicle so as to
get out and about to see some of the native flora in Missouri, most of
which is unfamiliar. I'll also try to get an apartment with some growing
space, so I can re-create the plant collection (hopefully I'll get some
of my seeds back from customs, once they have finished inspecting them for
noxious weeds, etc.)

My last botanical trip in the UK was to Upper Teesdale in the North
Pennine region of N. England. The weather was excellent, and very low
grazing pressure (from sheep) this year has allowed many of the plants to
develop unhindered and flower very well, e.g. spring gentian (Gentiana
verna), which is vivid blue; mountain pansy (Viola lutea), which is
varying shades of blue, violet, yellow, cream, or multi-coloured, and the
birdseye primrose (Primula farinosa), which has leaves dusted with white
meal beneath, and pink flower-clusters. OK, so these are not Mediterranean
plants, but I thought you might like to know some of the highlights of my
original country! Here's looking forward to learning about the US flora!

Nick.
